THE 'KING' RELIES ON MM AMENITY MIXTURES!

THE 'KING' RELIES ON MM AMENITY MIXTURES!

Have you seen the article about Radley College in the June/July issue of the influential Pitchcare magazine? If you are responsible for the establishment and maintenance of top quality amenity mixtures for sporting purposes such as football, rugby, hockey and cricket then it is well worth a read.

The story – Meet the King of Radley College - is on page 32 and the ‘monarch’ in question is Adam King who has been at this independent boarding school near Oxford since 2001. He manages the grounds and the gardens and oversees a team of 15 full time staff.

The college endeavours to provide a good all-round education for the 670 pupils and sporting activities have a key role to play in this programme. The pupils play sport four days a week plus matches on Saturdays so the various pitches have to sustain a serious amount of wear and tear.

All the seeding and overseeding operations are undertaken by a contractor and as the site (sandy loam) is subjected to hard frosts and cold winds Adam is especially careful about which brand of grass seed he specifies for the various jobs.

The majority of the pitches at Radley are overseeded with our MM60 mixture which contains 100% ryegrasses and has the legendary Headstart seed treatment. The seed treatment is an important part of the grass ‘package’ because Adam knows from experience that it provides tangible benefits. He takes up the story.

“Using treated seed gives plants a two to three day headstart on germination. It also gives seed more energy when it does germinate. In dry springs, it takes the plants through the drought, whereas ordinary seed can fail and die away”.

Our MM12 and MM 50 mixtures are also used at Radley College – the former is specified for the cricket outfields while the latter goes on the cricket squares.

So, take the advice of somebody who knows the value of top quality amenity grass seed mixtures and next time you are planning to sow a new pitch, or upgrade an old one specify the brand name range with ‘royal’ connections – the MM range!

If you do not see PitchCare magazine on a regular basis then e-mail us and we will arrange to send you a copy of the full story.
