Forage Maize

Forage Maize

The ability of maize to generate a massive yield of high quality silage from a single harvesting operation has resulted in this crop becoming a ‘first choice’ forage on an ever increasing number of livestock farms – especially those with milking herds.

With all crops the correct choice of variety is important – but with maize it is absolutely vital, especially if you plan to grow it in an area which is considered to be marginal. It is not over-emphasising the position to say that the ultimate success of most maize crops in the UK will hinge very firmly on the decisions made at or just before sowing time.

Fortunately for maize growers in the UK the LG portfolio is one of the best available. In fact our contribution to the development of the crop in this country was recognised not long ago when the NIAB awarded one of our varieties their prestigious Variety Cup – the first ever presented to a maize variety in the UK.

But we don’t just provide the farming community with some of the best forage maize varieties on the market – we go that one step further by supplying agronomic guidelines on how to get the best from your crop. We have a number of publications available – for more details click on the drop down menu for Maize and navigate to Technical Information.
