Sinclair McGill
When it comes to quality grass and clover seed mixtures Sinclair McGill is one of the best-known brands in the UK. Our belief that a high yield of good quality grass can only be achieved if you sow a well-designed mixture at the outset has been the driving force behind the success of our leys. We have a well earned reputation for innovation and we regularly update the formulations of our mixtures to take account of newer genetic material emerging from the plant-breeders pipeline and relevant new technology.
For example, we have introduced two top class biological seed treatments for our grass seed and we have also launched the concept of pelleted treated clover seed. Both these innovations are designed to boost the percentage establishment of the grass and clover varieties that you drill. At the end of the day this means more, and better quality forage whether it is grazed or conserved. The red clover trial work we have been doing for several years on a commercial farm in Devon has been instrumental in highlighting new possibilities for this often underrated but highly flexible, nitrogen-fixing legume.
Although good grass should be the foundation of your forage cropping plans it is also important to bear in mind the considerable role that other crops can play. For example, forage maize and fodder beet are both capable of delivering big tonnages of feed for use over the winter months. Both these crops are in the ground for a full season but if you need a faster growing solution then we can supply that as well – in the form of a range of fast establishing ‘catch crops’ like stubble turnips, forage rye and forage peas.
All our seeds are supplied via a network of authorised distributors/stockists and their ‘local’ knowledge will be invaluable to you because their technical staff will be able to recommend crops/varieties which will be ideally suited to your individual location and farming system. The names of these contacts appear in all the Sinclair McGill catalogues.
We produce three versions of the Sinclair McGill catalogue so you can view or download the appropriate version by clicking on one of the buttons at the top of the page. This key brand has its own dedicated website so if you need any further information then click on this link www.sinclairmcgill.com

One of the most exciting developments in the field of grass is now poised to make a real impact on livestock farms in the UK. The new concept - Matrix Enhanced Ryegrass - offers an extended grazing period (up to six weeks extra!) and several other valuable advantages.
You can find out more by clicking on 'Forage Grasses' in the menu at the top of this page, then clicking on 'Introduction'. The Matrix Enhanced Ryegrass PDF file is the first one on the left.
